The SIGNALIS radio receiver, memory list and diagnostics interface

A radio can do more in a horror game than provide a suspicious noise. In SIGNALIS, rose-engine identifies radio signals as part of solving the world's puzzles. Listening belongs beside looking and managing your supplies.

That is our Halloween reason to revisit it. The technology is not just scenery placed around the monsters. It gives the player something to interpret while the rest of the situation remains distinctly unhelpful. This feature avoids puzzle answers and ending explanations, focusing on how to approach the investigation and choose the correct edition.

Give the machinery your attention

The developer's press kit describes Elster as a technician Replika searching through a science-fiction survival-horror world. It lists codes, radio signals and combining objects among the puzzle interactions. Top-down exploration sits alongside detailed first-person puzzle and event screens.

Our interpretation is that this gives the machinery a practical presence. A device can be both part of the setting and something you need to understand. That is a stronger relationship than a decorative control panel whose only purpose is to announce that the building is futuristic.

Look at the supplied radio-interface image. The display asks for attention in a different way from the surrounding rooms. Our suggestion is to read such a screen as deliberately as you read a written clue, rather than immediately searching for a nearby enemy or the next doorway.

Take notes without taking the mystery apart

For a first session, we suggest recording the location and context of a clue before recording a theory about it. “Found this here” and “this must mean that” are different kinds of information. Keeping them separate makes it easier to reconsider an idea without losing the thing that prompted it.

You do not need an elaborate spreadsheet. A short note that preserves what caught your attention is more useful than several paragraphs written so confidently that you later forget which part was a guess. The game already has enough unsettling material without your own notebook becoming an unreliable narrator.

This is an editorial method for approaching a mystery, not a claim about a required in-game journal feature. It also avoids supplying a puzzle solution. The point is to make your own observations easier to revisit when the game gives you a reason to do so.

A route is a resource decision

The developer specifically describes ammunition as scarce and asks players to choose between fighting and escaping. The PlayStation description likewise pairs resource management with riddles and exploration. This is not an invitation to assume every threat must be cleared before you move on.

Before you leave a room, give a trip a purpose. Decide what you are trying to inspect or reach, then reconsider the plan when new information appears. That keeps a return journey connected to a decision instead of turning it into an automatic habit.

We are not promising that retreat is always possible or that any particular room stays safe. Nor are we using old inventory-slot numbers as universal advice across updates. The useful principle is simpler: before spending a limited resource, identify what spending it is supposed to achieve.

Leave room for uncertainty

The official descriptions frame the story around memory, identity and cosmic horror. Our recommendation is to approach those ideas without requiring every strange detail to produce an immediate, final explanation. A provisional interpretation is allowed to remain provisional.

That does not make observation pointless. It gives observation a different job from checking an answer key. You can notice an image, a location or a repeated idea and wait to see what else belongs beside it. For a Halloween evening, that kind of lingering uncertainty can be the attraction.

Match the physical edition to the hardware

The developer FAQ identifies physical PS4 and Nintendo Switch editions and warns that preorder bonuses will most likely no longer be included. Check an individual listing's actual contents instead of treating a photograph of an original promotional package as a guarantee.

The same FAQ distinguishes official developer information from fan-run communities and interpretations. Fan discussion can be interesting, but a confident ending theory is not automatically a statement from rose-engine. That distinction is especially useful if you are trying to keep a first playthrough free of other people's conclusions.
